I'm on day 7 of a 14 day trial. i was in the Eve beta long ago, so i've forgotten everything I learned.
first, I figured I'd do the easy/safe thing. I spent a day mining. Worked very well. I was able to upgrade to a Bantam quickly. this increased my ISK from mining. i too the advice of many here, and just sold the ore. I tried refining it, but like folks said, at that level, you loose isk Refining.
on the second day, I got enough to buy and outfit a Kestral. nice little ship for hunting. :) I found accidentally about contacts in stations that give you missions.
So I stocked up on some ammo, as i didn't know how long the mission would be.
went out, and killed my first few Pirates. did about 6 of these, then found a drop item(Can't remember what) that I was able to sell right away for abour 3.5 Million. I figured sweet. I've continued doing hunt/kill missions and on day 5 got my self a destroyer, as I can't get a cruiser becuase of this being a Trial account(Game on the way in the mail).
So now, i'm just makeing money on hunt/kill missions.
i've taken some of the advice of the vets and I've been focusing on my learning skills.
BUT..
Becuase I was flush with cash early, i've bought as many of the lvl 1 skills as I can. Most of these are taking me like 15 minutes to train to level 1. I mean, even if I dont' use it, I'm buying it and getting at least the first skill level. I do this while playing, and on my off time, I train the Learning skills.
reason I'm grabbing all the skills I can to lvl 1 is that most of them add a few percent to this, a few percent to that, and so on. they keep adding up. And, as I progress, i'm finding that I need other skills for the missles or turrents, or afterburners or whatever I need, so haveing the first teir already at lvl 1 is helping.
i'm at day 7 now, have a fully outfitted Destroyer(I THINK it's the largest ship I can get on a trial account) I have 3 other fully stocked ships, I have quite a few items out for sale that should sell for a few mill each. when I get the full version of the game, I will be set for Cruisers after a day of training :)
As a side note. I like this training of the learning skills in my off time as they take a few days now for me, and training of the little lvl 1 stuff while I play. It makes me feel like I'm progressing to have stuff train up in 20 minutes :)
